A family reunion of sorts: Four of the ten pups from Cooper’s litter were at the 2007 IWSCOPS Specialty in Bothell, Washington. Left to right are Patrice with Cooper, Christine with Tosca, Tammy with Mowgli, and Amy with Maggie.

After their last trip through the show ring, we turned them loose in Colleen MacDaniel’s exercise yard for an enthusiastic display of sibling romping.

The 2007 IWSCOPS Specialty was Cooper’s first show, and he (number 13, the middle dog in the bottom picture) got a 2nd in the 6 to 9 month old puppy dog class. He looks great with Tammy’s handling and grooming.

We had to hide ourselves so that he wouldn’t get distracted looking for us. And Tammy said she wanted to show him again, so, who knows, maybe he’ll be a show dog.

The first event at the 2007 IWSCOPS Specialty was a live bird retrieving seminar with Jim Brennan. Up to this point, Cooper has been an enthusiastic bumper retriever. This was his first taste of “live bird.”

The top photo shows us at the line as a wing clipped pigeon was released about 30 yards away. Cooper returned just up to the line with the bird proudly displayed. Then he proceeded to run a victory lap without actually crossing the line or releasing the bird to the humiliated handler. Eventually he did, with the crowd encouraging him on.

Well . . . at least it proves he has potential.
